You will see a handful of quarterbacks in your football watching life who can make the throw Dylan Hopkins made on a second quarter touchdown pass to Kelby Brock Friday night.

2N6A0295I mean, just wow!

Running flat out, Brock never broke stride.

Hopkins, the Barley’s/Blount Press Row Player of the Week, went on to finish the half 6-of-8 passing for 199 yards. He didn’t play in the second half.

Put with what the Maryville sophomore added running the ball, and the Rebels rolled to a big night, routing Dobyns-Bennett, 49-10, at Shields Stadium.

No. 1-ranked Maryville (7-0, 4-0 Region 1-6A) blew it open with 455 yards of offense and seven touchdowns the first two quarters. All the scoring took place before the break, the Rebels leading 42-0 before the Indians (4-2, 2-1) got on the board. Hopkins and his older brother, Joel, had a lot to do with that.

To go with his passing, Dylan Hopkins rushed for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns on three carries.

That’s 23.7 yards per carry, if you’re interested in the math.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder had scoring runs of 12 and 17 yards, adding a 2-point conversion run late in the half.

Joel Hopkins, a senior, tacked on 34 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Sophomore Isaiah Cobb uncorked a sizzling, 69-yard touchdown run up the middle of the field en route to finishing with 89 yards on four rushes.

With junior Jordan Ervin putting an additional 50 yards in the books, the Rebels rang up 256 yards rushing before the break.

Punter Luke Orren kicked once in the opening half, a wind-aided strike traveling 66 yards. In the second half, he hit one for 70.
