Revenge is a dish best served cold, the saying goes.

Yeah, but whoever said that never lost twice in one season to Bradley Central. The second one in the playoffs. In the second round.

The payback was ferocious, Maryville routing the Bears, 38-0, on Friday at Shields Stadium in a game that wasn’t as close as the score. It was way colder than that.

Delivering their third shutout to start the season, the Rebels (3-0) limited the Bradley running game and the passing game to less than 100 yards on the night.

Linebackers Matthew Covert and David Crawford and down linemen Mack Serr, Zak Hampel, Jonah Arms and Ryan Henry paced a Maryville front seven that limited the Bears to 59 yards on 18 carries on the ground.

Bradley Central fared little better through the air, completing eight of 20 passes for another 81 yards and an interception.

Offensively, the Rebels were red hot.

Sophomore quarterback Will Jones bombed Bradley Central on 12-of-14 passing for 205 yards and a three touchdowns. Receiver Casey Cobble latched onto a pair of scoring throws of 32 and 37 yards.

Casey Cobble snares the second of his two scoring catches. (Editor: What a pic, huh?)

Serr, who doubles at tight end, raced in on a touchdown grab of 13 yards.

On the ground, Maryville roughed up the Bears with 30 carries, a number of no small significance considering the line in front of the Rebel backs.

Price Davis punched in for scores of 1 and 2 yards to lead the Maryville ground assault.

A Hudson Jamerson 28-yard field completed the scoring. Serr’s catch with four minutes to play in the third put the contest under the running clock for the remainder of the game.
