Baseball Mountaineers crafting one of state’s best defenses

Anything less than four runs per game is pretty stout against today’s wicked efficient bat technology.
Heritage is one of the best in the game when it comes to the state’s top defenses in baseball this season. The Mountaineers, who host Maryville for an important District 4AAA clash today at 6, are limiting opponents to 2.9 runs per outing as the weather warms.
Loretto, the state’s best, is yielding a paltry 1.6 runs per outing. State power Farragut occupies the No. 5 spot (2.4 runs), with Heritage ranked 11th.Sevier County’s Smoky Bears lead the state with 19 wins.
