Blount Press Row
Don't Miss

Week ending April 7

It sounds like a snake.

Ninety-three miles per hour.

We don’t know if Trevor Clifton threw any faster last Wednesday night. We don’t want to know. Ninety-three in the fourth inning was plenty, the Heritage High School senior striking out 15 Maryville batters in a 6-0 Mountaineer win at Maryville College’s Scotland Yard.

Clifton, a University of Kentucky signee and major-league pitching prospect, earned selection as the Aubrey’s/Blount Press Row Player of the Week not so much for his speed or the strikeouts. He had 10 of them from the fourth inning on. It’s the way the tall right-hander changed speeds and located his pitches in a four-hitter that impressed.

Still, get up close to the backstop the next time he pitches and listen.
