Jones steps down as Alcoa coach

Former Vol assistant rumored headed to UTC

Blount Press Row learned Monday afternoon Alcoa boys’ basketball coach Tony Jones has stepped down, effective immediately.

“He is leaving Alcoa High School,” Alcoa athletics director Josh Stephens confirmed. “He has stepped down as coach.”

Jones, a former assistant at Tennessee, is at the end of a “show cause” order with the NCAA to return to the college coaching ranks after being let go with the Bruce Pearl purge. Sources have Jones pursuing a position at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
