The Bio Blast! on: Mishayla Byrd
Who she is: Former Alcoa High School catcher/third baseman signed with Tennessee Wesleyan College earlier this month. In her other job, she was a student trainer for the Tornado football team.
Why we like her: Byrd posted exceptional numbers during her senior season with the Lady Tornadoes this spring, hitting .466 with 20 RBI and four home runs to go with a .763 slugging percentage. She’s a great ball player, but she offered a ride to a cyclist broken down on Alcoa Highway late one night. That kind of thing earns you points at “The Row.”
Signature moment: She was injured much of her junior season. The day she was released by doctors to return to the team, she ripped a walk-off, line-drive rope down the third base line for the game winner. Clutch is so cool.
