Week ending Feb. 3

Heritage wrestler Jose Hernandez was a hands-down selection as the Aubrey’s/Blount Press Row Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3.

The Mountaineer 132-pounder secured the clinching points, advancing No. 4-ranked Heritage to championship Saturday at the TSSAA state duals at the Williamson County Agricultural Exposition Park in Franklin on Saturday. Hernandez’s pin and resulting six points lifted Heritage above Blackman, 39-30, and into the state semifinals for the first time in school history.

Heritage finished fourth after a semifinal loss to eventual state champion Cleveland. The finish was the highest ever for a Mountaineer team, following on the heels of the school’s first region championship in late January.
