William Blount High School senior Lane Bloom has been selected as the Aubrey’s Blount Press Row Player of the Week for the week ending Aug. 26.
Bloom finished with 116 yards receiving and two touchdowns on four catches, including an 80-yard, go-ahead grab with two minutes remaining that proved the winning points in a 30-20 victory over Knox Central. The result put the Governors (1-1) in the win column for the first time this season.
William Blount quarterback Tim Green and kick returner Vinnie Hasenstaub also had big nights in the breakthrough win, but what distinguished Bloom were the team-best 14 tackles, including a sack, he added on defense.
“I’d love to have 11 of them like him,” William Blount coach David Gregory said.
Making this week’s final cut were Heritage quarterback Jake Olvey, Mountaineer receiver Jesse Huff, Alcoa running back/linebacker Jarod Crenshaw and Tornado quarterback Peyton Wall, Maryville quarterback Nick Myers and Rebel tight end Logan Winders, with Green also making the list from William Blount.
