It’s not like opponents are unaware Maryville is going to throw him the ball.
And still he puts up these numbers.
Rebel senior Kelby Brock, the Barley’s/Blount Press Row Player of the Week, capped a big first half to the season with three catches for a 110 yards and two touchdowns as No. 1-ranked Maryville stunned No. 4 Science Hill, 52-17, on Friday on the road.
Brock’s scoring grabs covered 31 and 34 yards, respectively. He’s had a similar impact on each of Maryville’s first five opponents, Brock’s statistics at the halfway point just flat out awesome.
With only 21 catches, Brock has accumulated an astonishing 520 yards receiving, an average of 24.8 yards per grab. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder has scored five of Maryville’s eight receiving touchdowns. The Rebels have thrown for only 866 yards as a team.
Maryville prides itself from year to year in being balanced offensively. Through five games, with the Hopkins brothers, Dylan and Joel, setting the pace, the running game has a 300-yard lead on the passing attack. Wouldn’t want to be at free safety the night Brock and quarterback Austin Ensley decide it’s time to pull even.
