In a sport full of twists and turns, there was just one outcome a certainty going into this monumental local derby; it was going to be a very special night for somebody.
Neither team needed any extra incentive to be victorious, but both teams had additional motivation to be on the winning team come those final three whistle blasts.
For Heritage it was not only the long awaited district showdown it’s had marked on the calendar all year, it was senior night. Seniors Jacob Woolford, Zach Kee, Gaspar Lopez, Omar Sanchez, Osvaldo “Ozzie” Rodriguez and Josh Watson were all quite rightly applauded for their contribution to Heritage High School, both on and off the pitch.
At the other end, William Blount was not only playing for its first district win in over four years, but for a friend and a teammate. When hardships like the unfortunate fate that fell upon Governor Hunter Spicer occur, it really puts things in perspective. There is a world outside soccer, which can make the mere game entirely futile, and thoughts go to Spicer, who is currently in hospital after being involved in a nasty car crash.
