Carpenters rolls to fourth title in five years

The Carpenters Middle girls basketball team has become a dynasty in every sense of the word the last decade. The 2018 back-to-back champions include: No. 1 Carsyn Swaney, No. 2 Kiki Dean, No. 4 Amelia Pfeiffer, No. 11 Karli Haworth, No. 12 Makenzie Bremer, No. 20 Ainsley Pfeiffer, No. 21 Macie Ridge, No. 22 Chloe Russell, No. 23 Karley Rule, No. 24 Ashlyn Perkins, No. 34 Cadha Kirkland, No. 14 Jada Stuart, No. 10 Natalie Byrd. The Lady Cougars are coach by Casey Haworth and Justin Boatman.
It wasn’t easy, but Carpenters caught fire in the second quarter and held off a Seymour charge late to extract a 30-20 win in the championship game of the TMSAA Area 2 tournament on Wednesday at Alcoa Middle.
The title was two in a row and fourth in the last five years for the Blount County basketball powerhouse. This year’s run was built around defense, Carpenters yielding 23 points or better four times in 26 games.
