This could go awesome real easy.

Bearden and Hardin Valley split the season series to finish atop the District 4AAA standings with matching 13-3 records.

Senior Lexi Campos enters the district tournament with 999 career points.

William Blount’s Lady Governors were a game off the pace at 12-4. Maryville (10-6) and Heritage (9-7) weren’t far back.

It’s when you look at how close many of the games were that produced those numbers you begin to get excited about this week’s district tournament at Lenoir City.

Hardin Valley won by five in the first meeting with Bearden this season, only to see the Lady Bulldogs roar back with a 15-point rout next time around. Tough call should they meet in the title game a week from now. Then there’s William Blount’s Lady Governors.

Barley’s/BPR Preseason Player of the Year Taylor Goforth didn’t disappoint. The Carson-Newman signee directs an athletic team with no shortage of scoring threats. Senior and Eastern Kentucky signee Lexi Campos finished the regular season last week with 999 career points. Then there’s a pair of deep-shot guards who pose serious matchup problems.

Designating junior Alyssa Walker and sophomore Jenna Kallenberg as guards is a bit of a stretch. Both shoot the 3, but it’s their size and athleticism that changes the game.

William Blount held off Bearden, 49-47, in the first meeting this season. The do-over — 45-37 Bearden in Knoxville — was equally close.

Maryville enters with one of the district’s best shooters in junior Courtney Carruthers.

Maryville’s Lady Rebels have more than enough firepower to overtake the top three. They did it last year. Junior guard Courtney Carruthers is a pure shooter who can put up big numbers on anybody. Point guard Danae Fritz is one of the best freshmen we’ve seen in a long, long time.

Plus, Maryville has Lindsey Taylor.

There’s really not another true, do-it-all center quite like her in the district.

Heritage’s Lady Mountaineers also sport a big-time newcomer in freshman Alexis Patty. The player who could really set it off for Heritage?

Senior Jenna Brackett is a genuine talent in the post. If the Lady Mountaineers get her rolling, she can carry them.
