You get to see a lot of neat things if you hang around long enough.
One of the neatest in 25 years of writing about sports in Blount County was watching former Maryville defensive back Paul Bristol, a sideline reporter for The Maryville High School Football Radio Network, interview his kid brother, Jack, following a game earlier this season.
Jack Bristol, in keeping with the family tradition, a standout defensive back, played a key role in the Rebels’ 43-29 win over rival Alcoa. Bristol’s interception of a Jaylen Myers pass returned 60 yards set up a 1-yard T.D. Blackmon touchdown run.
The Blackmon score made it a two-touchdown game with less than eight minutes left.
The Bristol interview was handled so professionally on both sides you would never have known they were brothers, excepting the fact they kept cracking each other up.
Paul, Jack, great job.
