Record Night for Wright

Unless somebody goes wild in the playoffs, the Blount County rushing title this season is done.
During Friday’s regular season finale with Halls, Heritage junior Colton Wright went past former Mountaineer Darren Sharp’s 1,500 yards to become the Heritage record holder for rushing yards in a season.
With Friday’s totals, Wright is alone at the top with 1,563 yards and counting. His closest pursuer among Blount County ball carriers this season is Maryville quarterback Dylan Hopkins with 480 yards.
Heritage visits Morristown West in a Class 5A playoff opener on Friday.
Wright took possession of the Mountaineer record for rushing touchdowns in a game with five in an early season win over South-Doyle. A few weeks later, the 6-foot, 188-pound Wright claimed a second school record when he ran for four touchdowns and recovered his own fumble in the end zone for a fifth, claiming the Heritage mark for total touchdowns in a game.
Regardless of Friday’s outcome, Wright, averaging 7.1 yards per rush, is also all but certain to own at least one more Mountaineer record by season’s end.
While it’s possible for a former Mountaineer to have run for 26 rushing touchdowns in a season as Wright has to date, it’s not likely. The Heritage athletic department is checking.
Great season, Colton.
Go Mountaineers!
