Technically, Dallas-Forth Worth is out of our coverage area — way out of our coverage area — but with the University of North Texas Mean Green coming to throw down with the Vols in a couple of weeks, we thought you might enjoy the above photo. There’s a local tie.
Photographer Wallace Bowden attended the North Texas game with the University of Texas-San Antonio recently. Wallace’s daughter, Sara, a Maryville High graduate, is a student at North Texas and plays in the band.
The guy in the photo getting rocked is North Texas quarterback DeMarcus Smith. To even get up after a stick like that proves you’re the man. The UTSA player dishing out the punishment is Roadrunner linebacker Marcos Curry.
To quote Wallace: “It’s real in Texas college ball.”
No doubt.
The Mean Green rallied for the win in the second half, 30-23.
