If you’re going to leave behind a legacy, breaking a 29-year-old school record on your way out the door is a pretty good one.
Senior fullback Orlando Bledsoe, the Barley’s/Blount Press Row Player of the Week, scored on a 3-yard run early in the first half during Heritage’s 48-8 win over Lenoir City on Friday at Jack Renfro Stadium. With the touchdown, Bledsoe raised the Mountaineers’ season total to 256 points, eclipsing the 253 scored by the school’s 1985 edition through 10 games.
The 48-point outburst raises the new school record 284 points all told.
The ’85 Mountaineers tacked on 41 more points in three playoff games. This year’s group needs 11 more its next two games to better that mark as well – with or without the playoffs.
The touchdown was Bledsoe’s second of the night to go with an earlier 1-yard score. Two additional Mountaineers also double dipped. Senior receiver Devin Gardner opened the scoring on a 20-yard run, later adding a 6-yard scoring catch from quarterback Dustin Richardson. Boding very well for the future, sophomore running back Zach Amburn ripped the Panthers for touchdown runs of 83 and 72 yards. Richardson had a 5-yard run to round out the scoring.
