A lot of hard work finally paid off for Trevor Clifton Monday afternoon.

The Chicago Cubs pitching prospect was informed he’d cleared the first hurdle in his professional career and been assigned to the Boise (Idaho) Hawks of the Northwest League. The short-season league opens play on Friday and continues through the end of August.
“It was a long process,” Clifton said. “It definitely wasn’t easy. I worked my tail off.”
