Lindsey Roddy is a genuinely humble kid.

There’s some real showtime in the William Blount sophomore when she takes the brakes off, though.

A 12-point burst from Roddy midway through the third and opening minutes of the fourth roused the Lady Governors. Summer Morris, Amber Click and Haley Talbott began to score in concert.

That’s when district frontrunner Farragut kicked again, the Lady Admirals pulling well clear for a 59-40 win Monday night at Marvin Boring Gymnasium.

Roddy finished with a team-best 14 points on the night, including a 3, as William Blount (13-7, 2-4 District 4AAA) struggled through a five-point second quarter that left the Lady Admirals with a 29-14 lead at the half.

Morris hit twice from 3-point range to finish with 10 for the Lady Governors, Talbott connecting twice from deep in the fourth quarter to finish with seven points, matched by Click.

Madyson Newby led Farragut with 11, but it was a terrifically balanced effort from the arc that carried the Lady Admirals. Meagan Hudson (nine points), Miranda Burt (five), Rebecca Jameson (eight), Anna Woodford (eight), Sue Yun Kim (five) and Madison Maples (nine) all hit at least one trey.

The Lady Admirals (16-1, 7-0) visit Heritage tonight in a clash that will do a lot to determine the final league standing in three weeks. Maryville (14-3, 6-1), the Lady Mountaineers (18-3, 4-3), Bearden (13-4, 3-3) and Hardin Valley (8-8, 3-4) round out the district’s top five.

Farragut opened a modest 14-9 lead after a quarter on Monday, turning up the defense in the second frame to lead by 15 at the half.

“We weren’t playing together,” Roddy said. “We were letting everything get in our heads. We decided we didn’t want to lose the game that way, and we started playing harder.”

Shelby Spradlin and Ami Hartline teamed defensively to hold Newby to only a bucket at the break to give William Blount a chance to make up ground when play resumed. Samantha Henry’s play at the point was noticeable in getting William Blount into a rhythm.

With the Lady Governors down, 36-17 with five minutes to play in the third, Roddy first popped for a 3 from the head of the circle, following with a drive to the basket and scooped layup between a pair of defenders. It was real nice.

“She just wants to help her team,” William Blount coach Todd Wright said. “She’s a great kid and a great teammate. They like the moves she can make when she gets to the rim.”

A drive and kick from Roddy soon set up Morris for a trey. Click got to the basket off the drive. Talbott knocked down back-to-back 3s to get William Blount within 11 with three minutes to play in the fourth, Farragut resuming control from there to cruise home to the win.
