Week ending Jan. 27
Alcoa’s Katie Stubblefield and Kenny Dean have been selected as the Aubrey’s/Blount Press Row Players of the Week for the Week ending Jan. 27.
Stubblefield, a senior shooting guard and Carson-Newman signee, tossed in 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Alcoa upset No. 7-ranked Fulton, 53-50, last Saturday. Stubblefield was honored after the game for becoming what is believed only the fourth player in school history to reach 1,000 points for a career.
Only all-time leading scorer Koral Stace remains ahead of Stubblefield among former Lady Tornadoes. Knocking off the Falcons came two nights after Stubblefield deposited 16 in a 45-32 win over Loudon.
Dean dropped a game-high 28 as the Tornadoes pounded Kingston, 65-45, last week. Dean led the way again with a game-best 20 as Alcoa continued to gather strength for the postseason with a 58-42 win over Loudon. The silky senior forward had 30 in a 50-46 loss to Fulton, Dean scoring all 12 of the Tornadoes’ fourth-quarter points.
