Spring time in the late 1950’s often began with mornings throwing the javelin and afternoons making tosses to his first baseman for Kenny Coulter, a three sport athlete at the University of Tennessee.
“A lot times in track they would let athletes who were in events where you measure the distances go ahead and do their events early,” Coulter said, “So in the morning I would go do the broad jump, the high jump and throw the javelin, and they would record my distances, then I would go get dressed for baseball and play a game that afternoon.”
