Alcoa didn’t get the ball for the first time until Elizabethton had run 15 plays and consumed the first seven minutes of the opening quarter.

The sequence was telling as Alcoa turned back Elizabethton, 17-14, in a Class 3A quarterfinal on Friday at Goddard Field.
