Knoxville – The Maryville Junior High boys’ team ran to a second place finish at the Tennessee State Middle School Cross Country Championship on Oct. 20 at Victor Ashe Park.

The Rebels were runners up in an event that drew 26 teams to Knoxville.

Maryville was edged out by the defending state champion Webb School of Knoxville by two points. Taylor Drake placed 15th overall for the Rebels and was awarded All-State honors.

Varsity runners for the championship meet included Cameron Perry (28), Sam Kenner (31), Seth Bowden (33), Jordan Taylor (93), Evan Burress (125), and Jon Chrisman (129).

Although the girls’ team did not qualify for state, three individual runners qualified. Snow Coulter placed 102, followed by Lauren Cole (107), and Presley Walker (133).

In the boys’ junior varsity race, two Maryville runners finished in the top 20. Joey Gugliotta finished third overall and Tommy Bollschweiler 15th.

The team is coached by Andy Lombardo and Brynn Everett. The 2012 TSMSCC meet marks only the second time Maryville has qualified for state, having previously qualified in 2008 when they placed ninth overall.
